The Thornton Police Department confirmed that the suspect in a shooting incident in Thorton, Colorado died in the hospital. Following the incident, Interstate-25 was closed in both directions on Monday morning.

“No officers were injured in this incident and the investigation continues. A press release will follow today. The highway remains closed,” the department tweeted.

“I-25 is closed in both directions, from 84th Ave to Thornton Pkwy, because of a Thornton PD officer-involved shooting. One adult male transported to area hospital. This investigation is in the early stages, with limited info right now,” it added.

Authorities added that no officers were injured during the shooting. The suspect has not been identified yet. Police are investigating the incident.

A man was taken to the hospital, and the department later confirmed he died from his injuries.

“The male subject involved in the officer involved shooting has died. The incident continues to be investigated. Both N/B & S/B will be closed for an extended period of time. Please use Grant St, Washington St, & Huron St as other routes,” the Thornton Police Department further added.

Thornton is a suburb of Denver with about 140,000 people.

AirTracker7 videos showed that investigation was ocused on the northbound side of I-25. 

The Colorado Department of Transportation confirmed the interstate closure shortly before 8 AM local time. Thornton police said drivers should expect an extended closure and to use Grant, Washington or Huron streets as alternate routes.
