After a car crashed into a restaurant in Laconia on Sunday afternoon, more than a dozen people were rushed to nearby hospitals.

The Looney Bin Bar and Grill, located on Endicott Street North, was hit by a car, according to Laconia police chief Matt Canfield.

Around 12:45 p.m., a white SUV appeared to leave the road and collide with the building. According to an initial report from the scene, one person was trapped and at least five individuals were hurt. Companies from neighboring towns joined the Laconia Fire Department in the response.

According to accounts from the scene, the wounded had been taken to nearby hospitals an hour later, with some being taken to Concord Hospital for more severe injuries.

About 13 people were taken to area hospitals, Capt. Chad Vallicancout of the Laconia Fire Department said adding that while approximately a dozen sign-off patients were hurt but did not need to be taken to the hospital. About 3 people were seriously injured, he added.

“The scene was very hectic at first. The bar was very crowded, a lot of people walking wounded, what we call them,” Vallicancourt said.

Canfield reported that a car was leaving Fun Spot and turning left. There was another vehicle in the center lane and the vehicle leaving Fun Spot failed to notice a third vehicle approaching, which led to a collision and sent the third vehicle into the restaurant.

The building is stable and the road will reopen soon, according to Canfield.
