West Texas, Southern New Mexico hit by 5.4 magnitude earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake is reportedly located towards the northwestern side of Pecos, Texas, which is 170 miles east of El Paso. Southern New Mexico also felt the impact.

The United States Geological Survey had earlier reported that the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.3 but later revised it to 5.4.

The depth of the earthquake has been reported to be three miles, 

The tremors were faced in El Paso neighbourhoods like Fabens, Horizon, and Las Cruces.

The USGS has asked residents to inform whether they have felt the tremors:

Anthony Franze, the Chief Meteorologist of News West 9, said that this is the third strongest earthquake in history to have hit Texas. It was also the strongest since 1995.

Latest reports suggest that aftershocks from the earthquake are still being felt in several parts of Texas. The most intense aftershock had a magnitude of 3.8:

People living in the area have started reporting on social media that they did feel the tremors. One Twitter user said, “I felt it in Central by Cotton! The whole building shook!” Another enquired, “Anyone else in Austin Texas feel that #earthquake?”

No damage to property or life has been reported yet.

State Rep. Eddie Morales, Jr., whose district includes Mentone, said he spoke with local authorities and there were no reported injuries. He said via Twitter that state officials will be “inspecting roads, bridges and other infrastructure as a precaution.”

DeBerry said there were reports of people feeling vibrations from the quake 200 miles (515 kilometers) west in the border city of Ciudad Juárez and as far south as Terlingua, a small community near the Rio Grande and Big Bend National Park.
