On Monday, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck central Japan. According to officials, the tremors were felt in Tokyo and other cities, but no tsunami warnings were issued.

The earthquake struck at 5:09 p.m. (0809 GMT) off the coast of central Mie prefecture at a depth of about 350 kilometres (217 miles), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

According to public broadcaster NHK, there were no reports of damage or injuries, and no abnormalities were detected at the Fukushima nuclear plants. The US Geological Survey also assigned a magnitude of 6.1 to the quake. Despite being hundreds of kilometres from the epicentre, the Fukushima and Ibaraki prefectures north of Tokyo experienced stronger shaking on Japan’s seismic scale.

On Friday, the government of Tonga issued a tsunami warning and urged residents to move inland to higher ground after a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck the sea about 207 kilometres from the capital.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 24.8 km and was centred east-southeast of Neiafu (USGS).

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, a tsunami advisory has also been issued for American Samoa (PTWC). Tsunami waves from the earthquake are possible within 300 kilometres of the epicentre along the coasts of Niue and Tonga, according to the report.

As a 5.4-magnitude earthquake rocked Nepal on Saturday evening, roughly 101 km east-southeast of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, severe tremors were reported in portions of north India, including in Delhi-NCR, officials said.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre of Nepal, the epicentre of the earthquake was Patadebal of Bajhang, 460 kilometres west of Kathmandu.
