The US Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a

challenge by Republican-led states to former president Barack Obama’s health care programme, news agency AFP reported. More than 31 million Americans received healthcare through Obamacare, the White House said this month.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010, which is famously called Obamacare aims to make the healthcare system more affordable for everyone in the US by offering affordable healthcare.

Obamacare, a term which was coined by critics of former president Barack Obama to reform healthcare, has changed the way health care is delivered in the US.

Before the ACA was implemented, people with preexisting conditions used to get excluded by insurance companies. Due to this, people with the biggest health expenses used to settle for a policy that did not cover their preexisting conditions or they had to go without insurance at times. In the absence of Obamacare, people, who could not afford regular doctor visits and were not able to contribute to the expense of their treatments, often used to end up in hospital emergency rooms.

However, under the Obamacare act, poor adults can avail the Medicare program that is generally open to only retired people over 65.

Under the ACA act, people under 26 can be covered by their parents’ insurance, while someone with preexisting medical conditions led to their being denied commercial health insurance have coverage.
