Incumbent President Donald
Trump will reportedly make his first public appearance post the US election results
to visit Arlington National Cemetery on the occasion of Veterans Day,
reported Reuters.

Veterans Day that falls on
November 11 every year is celebrated to commemorate the valor and fortitude of veterans
who served in US armed forces both in wartime and in peace.

America will mark its 102nd Veterans Day this year shared with 245th Birthday of US Marine Corps.

The tradition began on the
final day of World War 1 when Germany conceded America’s victory in 1918.

The occasion celebrates and extends
gratitude for everyone who ever had or is serving in the armed forces.

“Veterans day largely
intended to thank veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their
contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the
fact that all those who served – not only those who died – have sacrificed and
done their duty.” Reuters quoted US Department of Veteran Affairs.

A brief history of
Veterans Day in US

According to the Department
of Veterans Affairs, the occasion celebrates the conclusion of the first world
war when an armistice was signed between German and allied forces.

A resolution was then authorized in the US
Congress in 1926 to observe the day along the lines of thanksgiving with prayer
and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual
understanding between nations. The day was named Armistice Day.
