A search operation is underway for three American sailors who disappeared off the coast of Mexico earlier this month. The sailors, Kerry O’Brien, Frank O’Brien, and William Gross reportedly left on April 4, and planned to make provisions stop in Cabo San Lucas, roughly 200 nautical miles across the Sea of Cortez, on April 6, before departing to San Diego, the US Coast Guard said.

“However, there was no record of them arriving in Cabo San Lucas or a report of their location,” the Coast Guard said in a statement Friday. They all were experienced sailors, according to statements from their families. The US Coast Guard and the Mexican Navy are working together to find the trio.

They all were aboard a vessel named Ocean Bound, which departed from Mazatlan on April 4 at around 9:30 local time.
