Three suspects in the Montgomery riverfront brawl in Atlanta have been identified and charged with assault, the police department announced in a press conference on Tuesday. Videos of the brawl went viral over the weekend.

Three white males have been charged with assault. However, authorities declared that there is still more potential charges to be expected. The police are presently working in collaboration with the FBI to determine if the incident can be categorized as a hate crime.

According to Chief of Police Darryl Albert, 13 people were detained Saturday – the day the fight broke out -and brought in for questioning. However, no criminal charges were pressed at the time and they were all released.

Only after the police conducted further investigation were the warrants were issued for three men. The suspects have been identified as Richard Roberts, Allen Todd and Zachary Shipman. One of the suspects is already in custody. Two others are set to turn themselves in later on Tuesday for booking.

Albert also identified the African-American man who was seen in one of the viral videos violently hitting people with a chair, as Reggie Gray. The police chief said that the man had not been charged yet. However, MPD said that he has been called in for further questioning.

Who are Richard Roberts, Allen Todd, Zachary Shipman?

Richard Roberts is 48 years old. He has been charged with two counts of 3rd-degree assault. Allen Todd’s age was not released. He has been charged with one count of 3rd-degree assault. Zachary Shipman is 25 years old. He was charged with a single count of 3rd-degree assault.

Shipman had already been identified in public as one of the suspects involved in the brawl. He is the owner of Vasser’s Mini Mart in Selma. He received backlash after posting the video of the brawl online. He claimed that he tried to get away from it.

“I am sure most of you have seen the news about the riverboat incident. Yes, I was there bit I was first to get away.” he wrote. “You can see in the video I attached, and I do not condone what happened. I tried to stop it and realized that I could not, so I tried to get away. There is a video of me being the first to run away because what was happening was wrong and I did not want to be a part of it. I realize I have a business to run and represent and no charges were filed against me because I was not involved.”

However, people have started flooding his business page with bad reviews, claiming that Shipman was more involved tat he was admitting to.
