On Friday, a California man named Anurag Chandra was convicted of murder for the killing three teenagers and injuring several others in 2020. The teenagers had played a doorbell prank on Chandra and he reacted by chasing them and then ramming his car into their vehicle.

Who is Anurag Chandra?

Anurag Chandra is a 45-year-old man from California. He was convicted on Friday of three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.

The incident occurred on January 19, 2020, just before midnight in the community of Temescal Valley, and those killed were Daniel Hawkins of Corona, Drake Ruiz of Corona, and Jacob Ivascu of Riverside. All of them were 16.

According to reports, the vehicle driven by Chandra hit the vehicle of the teenagers and it careened off the roadway hitting a police in Riverside.

“The murder of these young men was a horrendous and senseless tragedy for our community,” Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin said in a statement. “This is an important step toward justice.”

The incident resulted in injuries to three other teenagers who were riding in the vehicle, including the driver, identified as Sergio Campusano, 18. In an interview with NBC Los Angeles, Campusano stated that one of the boys had rung the man’s doorbell and quickly returned to the vehicle as part of a prank commonly referred to as “doorbell ditch” or “ding-dong ditch”.

According to Campusano and authorities, after ringing the doorbell, the teens left in a Prius with Campusano driving. However, they soon noticed that the man they pranked was chasing them. The man then collided with the back of the teens’ car, causing it to veer off the road while traveling on Temescal Canyon Road at Trilogy Parkway.
