In connection with the tragic mass shooting that claimed four lives in Winnipeg’s West Broadway neighborhood early last Sunday, Winnipeg police have apprehended and charged a 32-year-old man with second-degree murder.

Jamie Randy Felix faces four counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder, according to a police news release.

The arrest occurred at 6:30 a.m. on Friday at a residence on Fernwood Avenue, as detailed by Insp. Jennifer McKinnon during a subsequent news conference held shortly after 10 a.m. on the same day. The apprehension involved a substantial police presence in the vicinity of Fernwood Avenue and St. Anne’s Road, featuring a tactical unit vehicle.

During the press briefing, authorities indicated that Felix had been in custody for only a few hours, emphasizing that the nature of his connection to the victims or his presence at the Langside home was yet to be determined. Sgt. Wade MacDonald of the homicide unit stated that this aspect forms a crucial part of the ongoing investigation, and they are actively pursuing leads to shed light on these details.

The victims of the tragic incident, who lost their lives in a unit of a multi-suite dwelling on Langside Street, were identified as Crystal Shannon Beardy (34), Stephanie Amanda Beardy (33), Melelek Leseri Lesikel (29), and Dylan Maxwell Lavallee (41). Crystal Beardy and one of the male victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Three others were initially rushed to the hospital in critical condition, and subsequently, Stephanie Beardy and another male victim succumbed to their injuries.

As of Friday, a 55-year-old man who was also shot remains hospitalized in critical condition. The police intend to execute several search warrants as part of the ongoing investigative efforts. The community is left grappling with the shock and grief resulting from this senseless act of violence.
