Rep. Jeff McNeely, R-Iredell, and Rep. Abe Jones, D-Wake, got into an intense debate Wednesday during a discussion on the school voucher measure that resulted in McNeely being forbidden from speaking further and Jones defending his educational background.

McNeely, a white man, questioned if Jones, a Black man, would have been admitted to Harvard College and Harvard Law School if he had not been an athlete or a member of a minority group. Jones attended Wake County Public Schools before enrolling at Harvard, and according to his campaign website, he was the first Black student council representative at Enloe High School.
