While Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest was canceled for the men, the women’s was held on Tuesday, with Miki Sudo being declared the winner on the Fourth of July at Coney Island.
Sudo defended her championship title by eating 39 and the famous contest before a storm led to a cancellation of the men’s competition. Sudo initially thought she ate 37 hot dogs. However, after a judge’s count, it was revealed that she ate at such a speed that some of the hot dogs she consumed were not counted. Her final count was 39 and a half in just 10 minutes.
“It was too close to call. The judges were having trouble keeping up” MC George Shea told an anxious crowd awaiting the results. “At the end of the day, one of these eaters had 39.5 and the other had 33.5.”
