A homeless woman with over several dozen prior arrests was arrested for robbing a United States Postal Service mail carrier, according to a New York Post, citing police.

Who is Mya Mariani?

Mya Mariani is a 44 year old homeless woman living in New York City who has managed to rack up 76 unsealed arrests.

She reportedly approached the 36 year old USPS mail carrier and grabbed several packages from the employee’s mail cart. The incident occurred on Schenectady Avenue near Lincoln Place at around 10:30 in the morning on Thursday, the New York Post report said.

The worker, in a bid to ease tensions, asked for the packages back, as stealing from the USPS is considered a serious crime. In much more extreme cases, the Office of the Inspector General will send investigators to track down stolen packages.

The USPS employee’s attempts to retreive the package failed as Mariani allegedly snapped at them saying, “B***h, get out [of my] f***ing face before I punch you in the face,” according to the NY Post report citing police officials.

While Mariani escaped, she was arrested a while later at the train station at Schenectady Avenue and Eastern Parkway. Police found five packages belonging to the USPS in her possession, according to the NY post article.

However, she was charged with petit larceny, the authorities said. A petit larceny charge is used to describe theft where the value of the property stolen is low. Mariani was conditionally discharged in 2019 in relation to another petty larceny charge. Most of the 44-year-old’s arrests have been for petit larceny but she has also been arrested for robbery and burglary, according to the NY Post.
