William McDonald, a Wisconsin man, pleaded guilty on Thursday and could face up to 11 years in prison, for intimidating and interfering with Black residents at a Milwaukee apartment he lived in. 

McDonald is set to be sentenced on June 29, US Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin Gregory Haanstad said on Friday.

Who is William McDonald? 

William McDonald, 45, is a resident of West Allis, Milwaukee. He could face up to 11 years in prison for harassing black residents at the apartment he lived in. 

McDonald admitted that in March 2021 he slashed the tired and smashed the windshield of a vehicle belonging to a Black woman when it was parked outside her apartment. 

He also sent a note filled with racial to the woman in which he threatened to slash the woman’s throat. On another note, Mcdonald demanded that the woman moves from the neighborhood.

A year later, a racist graffiti was written on the door to an apartment where another black woman lived with her two children. The family also reportedly found a note filled with racial slurs demanding that they move from the apartment. 

“The conduct at issue in this case strikes at the very core of the civil rights guaranteed to every American citizen under federal law,” Haanstad said in a release.

“I commend the courage of those targeted by Mr. McDonald for coming forward. The U.S. Attorney’s Office remains committed to working with all of our federal, state, and local partners to hold individuals who violate the civil rights of others fully accountable under federal law.”
