A video of a teacher named Xaviera Steele punching a student went popular on social media. There were no injuries sustained during the fight. The video in question received more than 3.5 million views online at the time this article was being written. Since then, online users have been debating whether the young person in question deserved to be mistreated by her teacher.

Xaviera Steele was in the news for engaging in a physical fight with a student.

The brawl broke out at Rocky Mount High School between the end of the first period and the start of the second period.

The student can be heard asking Steele, “Why does the rules not apply to everybody else. That’s my phone.”

Steele then adds, “it does apply to everybody.”

The unidentified student then tries to take the device from the teacher’s grasp. The latter then declares, “Don’t touch me.”

The two then engage in a violent altercation, swinging at each other. The Rocky Mount teacher may be seen on top of the pupil at the end of the viral video.

After the video became viral online, internet users were split. Many people found it hard to comprehend that the teacher chose to physically combat the student rather than finding a peaceful solution to the issue.

Bettie Atcherson, a substitute teacher, discussed how she would respond to comparable circumstances in the classroom in an interview with WRAL News.

“As the adult, you have to contain yourself and not let them take you that far. If you’re kind to kids, even the toughest kids, if you’re kind to them and show that you love them are concerned about their well-being, nine times out of 10, you won’t have a lot of problems… but there are always exceptions,” she stated.

According to the Nash County Public Schools, a school employee who is being physically threatened or attacked has the right to defend themselves by restraint the student in a reasonable manner. If there is a legitimate necessity for such communication, school employees may let students to use their cell phones for personal purposes.
