Zoe McKinney, a 17-year-old teenager died after falling 30 feet from a cliff while hiking with friends on Utah’s Moab Rim Rail. She had been hiking in Kane Creek Canyon with friends at around 4:10 pm on Friday, according to The Independent.

The 17-year-old McKinney “somehow slipped and fell,” Jared Garcia, the Moab Police Department chief said in a statement. The teenager’s community, family, friends and loved ones came together with heartfelt tributes paid to Zoe McKinney following her tragic death.

She was reportedly sent without hiking equipment and after falling into the “deep, cliffy area” her friends were unable to reach her safely. Her friends called 911, thus sending out search and rescue teams to the scene.

Police reported that McKinney was tragically declared “deceased from the fall.” It was also revealed that the teen’s family had arrived at the scene as teams tried to rescue her.

Zoe was also due to receive an award from the school on the day she died, informed Lux Bell, Moan assistant police chief. 

Zoe’s boyfriend, Lloyd Gist while talking to NBC News said that McKinney was the “sweetest” girlfriend, as he mourned her loss. Gist, 18, had been dating McKinney for a year and said he met her after moving from Salt Lake City to Moab two years ago.

Zoe’s heartbroken boyfriend also shared that she was fond of dirt bikes even though her “feet wouldn’t touch the ground.” She could ride a large dirt bike and be “perfectly fine on it.”

The teen couple had planned to move in together later this year after completing high school. Lloyd also told that Zoe wanted to become a paramedic in the future. “We were inseparable. If you couldn’t find me, you called Zoe because I was with her,” he added.
