Audrey Hale has been identified as the suspect in the Covenant School, Nashville shooting suspect, three law enforcement officials told NBC News. Three students and as many staff members died in the mass shooting incident on Monday.

Hale, after killing six, shot herself. Police said she was 28 years old.

Who was Audrey Hale?

Audrey Hale was a Nashville resident. She was armed with two assault-style rifles and a handgun when she was confronted by five officers. Investigators were searching through the shooter’s home, Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake said.

A car near the shooting scene helped police identify her. “There was a vehicle that was nearby that gave us clues as to who she was,” Drake said.

Doors are usually locked on the campus but Hale got into a side entrance. Drake said the investigation is still underway.

Hale once attended the Covenant Scholl but it is unclear which year or years she may have attended. Police said an online profile listed her as working in Commercial Illustration and Graphic Design.

Police received the initial call about an active shooter at 10:13 AM. The responding officers quickly started clearing the first story of the school after hearing gunshots coming from the second floor.

Hale was shot by police officers at 10:27 AM, officials said.

Police said the victims were subsequently declared dead at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Their names and ages weren’t immediately released.
