According to authorities, a sheriff’s deputy in Texas was tragically shot while performing his official duties on Friday night while responding to a report of a domestic dispute.

According to the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office, deputy David Bosecker responded at about nine o’clock to a residence on Highway 183 between Cisco and Rising Star.

Bosecker arrived first and was immediately attacked by the suspect. The deputy was shot and died as a result, the sheriff’s office said. Before anyone else was hurt, the suspect was captured by additional responding deputies. The suspect, who wasn’t identified in the news release from the sheriff, was taken into custody and charged with capital murder.

The event is being investigated by the Texas Rangers. There was no other information regarding the shooting available right away. On social media, a number of Texas law enforcement organizations sent condolences to Bosecker’s family and friends.

According to Eastland County Today, Bosecker, a master peace officer, worked in law enforcement for more than 21 years. Prior to joining the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, he started his career as a deputy in Wise County.

According to the publication, he then worked as a game warden for Texas Parks and Wildlife and a police officer for the Comanche Police Department. He also had a part-time job with the Cisco Police Department as a maritime enforcement officer.
