Dylan Arrington, one of the four male inmates who escaped from a Mississippi jail is believed to have died following a standoff with deputies at a home in Leake County. He reportedly opened fire on a law enforcement officer, the local sheriff’s office said.

Early Wednesday morning Dylan Arrington reportedly barricaded himself inside a home that later caught fire. The standoff lasted about 2 hours. How the incident was resolved is not clear.

The four men who fled from Mississippi jail are Dylan Arrington, 22; Casey Grayson, 24; Corey Harrison, 22; and Jerry Raynes, 51.

The jail was placed on lockdown after staff at the Raymond Detention Center, realized that the four men were missing after a routine headcount on Sunday, Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said in a news conference on Monday. It was also reported that Arrington is suspected of killing a man and stealing his truck after he fled from the prison.

61-year-old Anthony Watts was shot and killed Monday on Interstate 55 in Jackson. He lost his life after he pulled over to help a man who had wrecked a motorcycle. The suspect is believed to have shot the victim several times and stolen the deceased’s Red Dodge Ram. “Based on information gathered from investigators, the suspect … fit the description of 22-year-old Dylan Arrington,” Jackson Police Chief James E. Davis said.

Furthermore, during the standoff with Arrington, he is believed to have shot an officer and wounded him in the leg. “At around 7:10 a.m. the suspect shot from within his location in the home striking Investigator Horn in the lower right leg,” the Leake County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook. “Horn was transported to Leake Baptist where he was stabilized.”

Arrington had been charged with auto theft and illegal possession of a firearm, among other charges.
