A tragic incident occurred in New York City, where a man attempting to evade police officers on a motorcycle tragically lost his life. The man has been identified as Eric Duprey.

The situation escalated when a sergeant threw a plastic picnic cooler at the man’s head from close range, leading to a violent crash that proved fatal. Following the death of Eric Duprey in the University Heights section of the Bronx, the involved sergeant, Erik Duran, was promptly suspended without pay.

Who was Eric Duprey?

Eric Duprey was 30 years old. He was a resident of New York City. The encounter between Eric Duprey and Sergeant Erik Duran was captured on surveillance video. The sergeant, who was not wearing a uniform at the time, was among the folks Duprey was driving toward on a sidewalk while operating a gas-powered motorcycle.

Duran was seen in the video picking up and hurling a red object, later identified as the picnic cooler. Duprey lost control of the motorcycle due to the strong hit of the cooler. The motorcycle then turned onto the street and threw him in the direction of a tree. Before coming to rest against a parked automobile, the motorcycle struck a metal barricade.

Eric Duprey was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, just minutes after the incident occurred, which took place around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the authorities, Duprey tried to escape on a friend’s motorcycle after being apprehended while trying to sell drugs to an undercover cop. The event occurred when the involved sergeant was standing on the sidewalk taking part in a “buy-and-bust” operation by the Bronx Narcotics Unit.

The department in a statement said, “The NYPD is committed to ensuring that there will be a full, thorough and transparent investigation of this incident to determine the facts and to take the appropriate steps forward.”
