Authorities are still looking for a motive in the mass shooting that took place at a dance studio in Monterey Park, California on Saturday night, leaving 10 people dead and another 10 injured. Huu Can Tran, 72, of Hemet, was the shooter who died during a standoff with law enforcement about 25 miles from the location. Two out of the 10 victims have been identified.

At the Star Ballroom Dance Studio, which is situated at 122 West Garvey Avenue in this primarily Asian neighborhood a few miles east of Downtown Los Angeles, gunfire broke out around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday during Lunar New Year celebrations.

Who was My Nhan? 

My Nhan, who was born in 1958, was killed in a mass killing carried out by Huu Can Tran. She was one of ten people killed when a gunman opened fire at Star Ballroom Dance Studio in the San Gabriel Valley community of Monterey Park on Saturday night after a night of Lunar New Year celebrations. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified the victims.

She was 65 years old when she died.

Authorities stated that Tran entered the Lai Lai Ballroom in nearby Alhambra twenty to thirty minutes after the shooting in Monterey Park. Tran allegedly had a magazine-fed semi-automatic weapon with an extra, big-capacity magazine connected to it.

“I can tell you that the suspect walked in there probably with the intent to kill more people and two brave community members decided they were going to jump into action and disarm him. They did so, took possession of the weapon and the suspect ran away,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said.

Authorities were given a description of a white van seen leaving the area by witnesses. The 72-year-old gunman was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a van at a Torrance strip mall on Sunday.
