31-year-old firefighter Rodney Pitts lost his life while battling a fierce inferno that engulfed rowhouses in Northwest Baltimore. The fire, which also left four other firefighters injured, has prompted an outpouring of grief and support for the courageous first responders.

Who was Rodney Pitts?

Despite his relatively brief tenure at Engine Company 29, Rodney Pitts had already earned a reputation as a dedicated and fearless firefighter. Hailing from the city he served, Pitts joined the department less than a year ago, driven by a fervent commitment to protect and serve his community. Mayor Brandon Scott hailed Pitts as a hero and a true Baltimorian who made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of the city.

Among the injured firefighters, Lieutenant Dillon Rinaldo remains in critical condition at the Bayview Burn Center, while Lieutenant Keith Brooks, Firefighter Tavon Marshall, and Firefighter Seth Robbins are all receiving treatment for their injuries. Fire Chief James Wallace called for unwavering support for the bereaved family and the injured firefighters, urging the community to express their gratitude and solidarity with these brave individuals who risk their lives for the well-being of others.

The fire that led to Pitts’ untimely demise erupted in the 5200 block of Linden Heights Avenue, quickly spreading to nearby residences, intensifying in ferocity as it blazed on. Chief Wallace stated that the investigation is actively underway, with authorities carefully reviewing all pertinent information and interviewing witnesses to uncover the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
