Who was Suzanne Morphew?

Suzanne Morphew was 49 years old. Suzanne Morphew, who went missing on Mother’s Day in 2020, left behind two teenage daughters and a husband, Barry Morphew. He was not only the prime suspect in her disappearance but was also charged with her murder.

Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze in a statement said, “While this case has garnered attention from around the world, it has touched our community and the sheriff’s office deeply. We have never stopped our investigation and will continue to follow all leads in pursuit of justice for Suzanne.”

Barry Morphew filed a $15 million lawsuit earlier this year, alleging false accusations in the disappearance and probable demise of his wife. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the FBI, as well as Chaffee County and the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, are also named as defendants in the lawsuit.

After starting a bike ride on Mother’s Day in 2020, Suzanne vanished without a trace. Her circumstances of disappearance are still unknown. A deep slope off Chaffee County Road 225, which leads off Highway 50, was where her bicycle was found. The bicycle showed no marks of a collision, and there was no sign of blood at the scene, according to the authorities.

Barry Morphew was apprehended and charged with premeditated murder, tampering with tangible evidence, and attempting to influence a public official on May 5, 2021.

There were issues with the case. After defense counsel expressed concerns about a potential conflict of interest, the judge who had been initially scheduled to preside over the proceedings withdrew his name from consideration in December 2021. The judge’s connections to a defense attorney working on the case of Barry Morphew’s alleged girlfriend, who might have been summoned as a witness in the trial, served as the impetus for this.
