Deputy Sheriff Tyee Browne was fatally shot around 3:40 am while conducting a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle in the 1300 block of Highway 280 in Cordele.

As per media reports, during the traffic stop, the suspect opened fire on Deputy Browne, causing him fatal injuries. He then fled the scene by stealing the deputy’s patrol car. Subsequently, police officials initiated a search across multiple counties, successfully apprehending the individual and bringing him into custody.

Who was Tyee Browne?

Tyee Browne was a dedicated member of the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office. He demonstrated his commitment to law enforcement by graduating from the ABAC Regional Police Academy in September 2022. After his graduation, Browne successfully completed a three-month Field Training Officer Program with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, further sharpening his skills and knowledge in the field.

He was a former student of Mary Persons High School, who not only excelled in academics but also showcased his talents on the soccer field. He was honored with Semper Fidelis Award Winner, as a testament to his character and commitment.

In addition to his accomplishments, he also served as a military veteran, exhibiting his dedication to serving and protecting his country. He had recently completed his reserve duty last year.

Sheriff Billy Hancock in a statement said Browne was shot dead after he pulled over Croshawn Gerard Cross. After shooting Browne, Cross fled the scene by stealing the patrol car. The police officials chased him through multiple Georgia counties but at last he was arrested in Monroe County.

Cross has been slammed by a range of serious charges in connection with the incident, including malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, theft by receiving stolen property, carjacking, three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and two counts of theft by taking.
