Robert Allen, a 50-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the murders of Abigail Williams and Libby German. He was initially arrested and moved to the Carroll County Jail on Friday afternoon but was later moved to a state facility later to protect his safety. 

Law enforcement spoke to CBS4 in Indianapolis and revealed that they had been preparing a big press conference for the Delhi murders on Monday next week. 

The conference is set to include Indiana State Police, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, United States Marshall Service and the Carroll County Prosecutor’s Office.

Who were Libby German and Abigail Williams?

Liberty “Libby” German and Abigail “Abby” Williams were two teenage girls who were found dead near the Monon High Bridge Trail in Delphi, Indiana on February 14, 2017. 

The two girls had gone missing from the trail a day earlier. German was 14 at the time of her death, while Williams was 13. 

The two had been dropped off by German’s older sister, Kelsi German, on County Road 300 North which sits east of the Hossier Heartland Highway. They subsequently disappeared, but not before the younger German sister took of photograph of Williams and posted it online at 2:07 pm. 

German and Williams were supposed to meet Liberty’s father on the trail at 3:15 pm. However, the two were not to be seen and bby 5:30 pm, the family reported the two girls missing. They had reportedly searched for the girls themselves before filing the report.

Initially, the police who searched the area did not suspect foul play but all of that changed when the bodies of the girls were found half a mile east of the abandoned Monon High Bridge. Their bodies ere discovered on the north bank of Deer Creek. 

Since 2017, the murders have received international attention and the girls’ parents have been on numerous talk shows to keep the murders fresh in the minds of viewers.

Despite being unresolved for five years, police also released two different sketches of potential suspects prior to the arrest of Allen. Key evidence also included audio and photos from Libby’s phone. Police also release an audio clip which is believed to be the suspect, saying, “Down the hill.”

Since the case was opened in 2017, there have been at least five people who have been arrested in connection to the Delphi murders. One of the suspects, Paul Etter, who was wanted for kidnapping and raping a woman died in a standoff against the police. His role in the murders were never investigated. 

Similarly, Daniel J. Nations, a registered sex offender, was named a person of interest in 2017 but by 2018, he wasn’t considered a suspect in the case.
