Since joining the program in 1994 when it was still known as Sports Saturday, the venerable broadcaster has been a cornerstone of Soccer Saturday on Sky. In 2021, Stelling announced the end of his time with Soccer Saturday, but he later came back for another year.

“I’ve been at Sky for more than 30 years and loved every moment of my time as part of the Soccer Saturday team. It is now the right time to move on and give Sky Sports viewers a break from my relentless rants, bad gags and over the top celebrations of Hartlepool United goals. It’s been a lot of fun – for me at least,” Stelling stated as per Sky Sports.
Stelling’s resignation from the popular weekly show follows the departures of his former co-hosts Phil Thompson, Charlie Nicholas, and Matt Le Tissier.
The former players were fired in August 2020 after Sky decided to overhaul the program, a decision Stelling described as “one of my saddest days ever at Sky Sports.”

Although Stelling has previously said he would step down, Stelling has vowed he will not change his mind this time. In the past, Stelling promised to depart Sky Sports.
Nobody has been named to take on the challenging duty of succeeding the 68-year-old, who has enormous shoes to fill. But Stelling’s departure marks the end of an era and comes after the show’s massive reorganization, which saw the likes of Tony Cottee, Charlie Nicholas, Phil Thompson, Matt Le Tissier, and others fired.
Soccer Saturday has become a must-see for thousands of football fans because to his wacky one-liners and unusual relationship with co-hosts.
His on-screen friendship with former coworker Chris Kamara was particularly memorable, giving rise to the legendary one-liner “Unbelievable, Jeff!” While the panel of ex-players and coaches frequently added color to Soccer Saturday, Stelling’s unwavering calm and wit under pressure has made it essential viewing over the years.
