Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to appear for his arraignment in a Manhattan courthouse Tuesday. This is an unprecedented moment in history and hence people from all over the world want to know if they can watch the arraignment live.

Unfortunately, there is no way to do that. New York Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan has denied a request from media outlets to allow cameras inside the courthouse when the arraignment takes place. As a result, the courtroom proceedings cannot be covered live by any of the outlets. However, the court would allow a “limited number” of videographers, photographers, and radio journalists to be present. They will, however, be disallowed from clicking pictures or recording videos during the session.

Only five pool photographers will be allowed to take photos for some time before the hearing begins.

The decision was taken by Merchan after considering “all relevant factors.” This included whether the camera coverage would “interfere with the fair administration of justice… with law enforcement activity, the objections of the Defendant; and limitations related to the physical structure of the courtroom.” However, he concluded that the motion to record the proceedings cannot pass as the integrity of the court’s impartiality far outweighed the “monumental significance” of the case and the “unparalleled public interest” it created.

If any members of the medical wanted to enter the courtroom, they would have to do so leaving their cell phones or any electronic devices behind. “The use of cellphones, laptops or any electronic devices will be strictly prohibited in the courtrooms. Any such devices will have to be turned off and secured outside of public view while in the courtrooms,” he wrote.

Cameras, however, could be used in the hallway of the building. Trump’s arraignment is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.
