Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said Wednesday that he plans to run for Speaker of the House.

Jordan, who is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee has gained national prominence over the years as being an aggressive presence in committee hearings. Following the historic ouster of Kevin McCarthy as the Speaker of the House on Tuesday, he was asked by reporters if he plans to run for the leadership role. He answered in the affirmative.

Punchbowl News also obtained Jordan’s letter to House Republicans announcing his bid for Speaker.

“We are at a critical crossroad in our nation’s history. Now is the time for our Republican conference to come to keep our promises to Americans. The problems we face are challenging, but they are not insurmountable. We can focus on the changes that improve the country and unite us in offering real solutions. But no matter what we do, we must do it together as a conference. I respectfully ask for your support for Speaker of the House of Representatives,” he wrote in the letter.

Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) said he is “all in” on Jordan as the next speaker. “We need a conservative fighter to stand up strong to the Biden White House and Democrat Senate, and I can’t think of anyone better than Jim Jordan,” Banks told NBC.

Banks also posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing, “He never backs down and has my full support.”

However, Jordan is not the only one who has thrown his hat in the race for Speaker. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, has been reportedly making calls seeking to accumulate support for a bid to succeed McCarthy. Scalise, who survived an assassination attempt during a congressional baseball practice, is the front-runner in the race for speaker as he has eyed the position for years now.
