Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said reports of shooting inside Willowbrook Mall in Houston, Texas, are “unfounded.” He added that there were no reported injuries and no active threat. 

“Update to Willowbrook Mall: someone reported hearing gunshots inside the mall, but upon further investigation it appears to be unfounded and there are no reported injuries,” he tweeted.

Local media had earlier reported that two suspects with weapons were detained after shots were fired inside the mall on Saturday evening.

Ed Gonzalez also confirmed receiving reports.

“Preliminary: there were reports of shots fired at Willowbrook Mall, but nothing has been confirmed and no reported injuries. There does not appear to be any active threat at this time. Policies agencies including Pct 4 Constables & HCSO are on-site,” Ed Gonzalez tweeted.

People present at the mall also tweeted about hearing gunshots.

“There is an active shooter at willowbrook mall I think the police got him or her idk what’s happening,” one person tweeted.

Another person tweeted, “Not Willowbrook Mall having an active shooter? I’m ok Zara employees hiding us in the storage room.”

“Something major going on at Willowbrook Mall/that area. Sirens and cops coming from all directions,” wrote another Twitter user. 

The incident comes a month after Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department dismissed reports of a shooting near MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Several people reported hearing gunshotsat the MGM Grand. However, authorities confirmed that the reported were “unfounded” and that the loud noise was caused by a shattered glass door.

“Reports of a shooting near the MGM tonight are unfounded. Initial reports are a glass door shattered causing a loud noise which startled people in the valet area,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department tweeted.
