Central midfielder Pedri is one of the most exciting young talents in football. He has already become the youngest Spanish player to feature in Euros and is playing consistently in the tournament. Spain national team has also drafted him into the Tokyo Olympics squad. 

However, his club Barcelona is not pleased with his meteoric rise in the national setup. Pedri would likely miss the start of the new season to recover and will be pivotal on the Blaugrana’s title push this campaign.

They appealed the decision of Pedri’s inclusion in the Olympic squad but were unsuccessful in their attempts. That has been the reason why Barcelona had to take steps to try to get the RFEF to rethink the call for the canary and remove him from the list is so that he could rest before the start of their La Liga campaign.  The federation has already said that they will not change the decision and Pedri will be in Japan. 

In football individual trophies are only possible when the team delivers. And the annual Golden Boy Awards are an opportunity to highlight some of the greatest young footballers. Euro 2020 is taking Padri closer to the Golden Boy Award.

Several players like Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Sergio Aguero, and Mario Balotelli have won the award. Some of them went on to do great things while others have struggled to maintain their early momentum. 

For this year’s Golden Boy Award, there are two remarkable candidates Barcelona and Spain midfielder Pedri and Borussia Dortmund, and England midfielder Jude Bellingham.

Both were seen as great prospects for the trophy before the Euros but the tournament has seen the Spaniard take the lead. Still, Pedri appears very much the star tipped to lift the title of Golden Boy this year.
