The regional rail line also plans to switch all of its diesel-powered trains over to this new alternative during the course of the ensuing year.
According to a statement from Alstom, the France-based firm that created the trains, once all 14 of the new trains are in operation, the line will become the first route to run completely on hydrogen. The cutting-edge Coradia iLint trains generate power by combining hydrogen and oxygen. Only steam, water, and any heat produced are the byproducts.
On a single hydrogen tank, the trains can travel 621 miles (1,000 kilometers). And when they run out of fuel, they can fill up with hydrogen at a filling station that workers constructed alongside the tracks. They can run up to 86 miles per hour, although on this road they usually maintain a speed between 50 and 75 miles per hour.
