Drilling work, as part of the construction process, set off this old bomb near the Donnersbergerbruecke station in Munich. Four people were injured, but there was no danger outside of the immediate area.
Notably, Germany has seen several such munitions, dating back to World War II surviving, and being discovered even 70 years after the war ended. Estimates state that 15% of World War II bombs didn’t explode and lie under the surface, in some cases.
Even in 2019, there was a sudden explosion in Southern Germany that startled local residents. Upon investigation, the police concluded that it was “almost certainly” the result of a World War II bomb.
