Apple’s electric cars may hit the roads as soon as 2025 as the tech giant pushes its work on a project that includes self-driving vehicles, according to US media reports citing unnamed sources.

The report from Bloomberg said elements like steering wheels and pedals would be absent from the vehicle manufactured by Apple.  The car’s interiors would also be designed for a hands-off experience.

The initiative, which has been tagged as ‘Project Titan’, has not seen significant progress since the company first started designing the vehicle in 2014, according to reports from Reuters.

The report from Bloomberg suggested that some employees of the American tech giant continued to question the possibility of completing the project in time considering the recent progress, which includes the creation of advanced sensors, processor chips and the self-driving mechanism.

Apple’s performance on the Wall Street observed a spike on Thursday evening after the report about self driving and electric vehicles was released. The stocks bumped up by 3%.

The electric vehicle market in the United States has expanded significantly this year as the demand for such products has surged steeply, benefiting major players like Tesla and Rivian, according to reports from Reuters.

United States President Joe Biden’s social spending plan, which is yet to be passed by the House of Representatives, is also expected to deliver incentives to those who use such vehicles.

Consumers would be offered a tax credit worth $7,500 if they purchase electric vehicles through 2026. The following year, only purchases of electric vehicles made in the United States would qualify for the credit. The base credit would go up by $4,500 if the vehicle was made at a United States plant that operates under a union-negotiated collective bargaining agreement.
