US pop star
Britney Spears
has officially asked for father to be replaced as her
conservator and her accountant Jason Rubin be appointed her conservator instead,
13 years after her father Jamie Spears assumed custody of her life and finances,
reports the BBC.

Spears’ new lawyer
Matthew S Rosengart has made the request on her behalf.

Britney Spears’
estate was lifted as having cash assets of $2.7 million and non-cash assets of
more that $57 million.

Britney’s move to
replace her father is expected to be the first stage of a broader strategy to
examine the validity of her conservatorship.

The petition to
remove Jamie Spears from his role comes a couple of weeks after Rosengart took
over as Britney’s lawyer.

Britney Spears has
repeatedly said
that she wants her father removed from his role as her
conservator claiming “he works me so hard” and had threatened to “punish” her
if she did not follow his orders.

Recently, Spears
told a US judge that she had been drugged, forced to perform against her will
and prevented her from having children, as she asked the court to end the
conservatorship that has governed her life for 13 years.

Jamie Spears,
Britney’s father, has consistently denied accusations of abuse and has
expressed concern for his daughter’s wellbeing.

Jamie Spears was
given conservatorship over his daughter Britney Spears’ life in 2008 after
Britney faced a public mental-health crisis.

The singer later
sought to dismiss her father from his role. Fans of Britney have launched a
#FreeBritney campaign to support Britney in regaining autonomy over her
affairs.

The long-drawn
legal battle between Britney and her father gained renewed attention in 2021 after
the release of Framing Britney Spears — a documentary on the conflict over
the singer’s guardianship.

The motion to remove
Jamie Spears and replace him with Jason Rubin is scheduled for hearing on
September 29.
