Ronaldo missed the match at Liverpool on Tuesday. However, seven minutes into the game, both Man United and Liverpool fans sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ to show their support for the 37-year-old Portugal legend.
Following this, the footballer’s family members took to social media to thank Liverpool fans for their support.
Sharing footage of the gesture, Ronaldo’s Madeira-based sister Elma wrote, ‘Thank you for this Liverpool. We will never forget what you did today.’
His sibling Katia wrote, “Way beyond football.”
Their mother, Dolores Aveiro, wrote that the family is placing faith in God to help them overcome the loss.
‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your way acknowledge Him And he shall direct your Paths,” she wrote.
On Monday, Ronaldo took to social media to say one of his newborn twins has died.
“It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away,” the Manchester United striker wrote.
Ronaldo announced last year that the couple was expecting twins.
“Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness,” he wrote on the social-media post.
“We are all devastated at this loss,” the post added, “and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”
