Eight people have been killed in Kabul from a car bomb, reported news agency AFP quoting officials.

“The terrorists have carried out a terrorist attack in Kabul city. Unfortunately, eight of our countrymen were killed and more than 15 others were wounded,” AFP quoted interior ministry spokesman Tariq Arian as saying.

Reportedly, a security source stated that the bomb detonated in the West of the capital, with a health ministry official further confirming the blast.

The casualties included women and children.

“It was a powerful explosion that has caused a lot of damage to houses in the vicinity,” the source was quoted as saying.

Amongst thick columns of smoke on display in the television coverage, at least two cars were reported to be on fire.

The capital of Afghanistan has been devastated by a series of attacks in the last few months, even though the government and the Taliban engaged in peace talks to end the decades-long conflict plaguing the country.
