Former Senator Harry reid lay at the Capitol Rotunda as US Vice President Kamala Harris and several other politicians paid their tributes in a ceremony, conducted as per COVID-19 protocols, on Wednesday. The democrat had died last month at the age of 82.
“To see him lead and legislate was to see a master at work. Harry Reid made the world a better place,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, describing him as a ‘legendary leader’.
During his funeral service last weekend in Las Vegas, US President Biden and Barack Obama were amongst the dignitaries who paid their respects to Reid.
Reid served longer in Congress than anyone from his state and was the Senate majority leader alongside two presidents. He led the Senate during one of its more consequential legislative sessions, securing the economic recovery bill during the Great Recession and President Barack Obama’s landmark health care law.
