Meghan McCain, who is a prominent journalist in the United States and daughter of Arizona’s late Senator John McCain, lashed out about a confrontation that involved Fox News’ Tucker Carlson and a private citizen in a fishing store.

In a tweet on Monday, she wrote, “If you think accosting a public figure while they’re shopping for fishing gear with their family on vacation is somehow accomplishing something or changing anyone’s hearts or minds—you’re a hypocrite and have totally lost the plot”, according to reports from News Week.

The spat involved Dan Bailey, a resident of Montana, heckling the Fox News host. He said, “You are the worst human being known to mankind. I want you to know that”, according to US media reports citing an Instagram post.

In the video, Carlson appears to be responding in a different tone than Bailey. The 52-year-old Fox News reporter says “I appreciate that” before noticing that the confrontation is being documented, according to reports from Newsweek.

Carlson also goes on to call Bailey “son”, to which the private citizen exclaims “Do not call me son”.

Fox News also released a statement about the incident that took place in the fishing equipment store. A spokesperson from the media organisation labelled the confrontation as an ambush and further added, “no public figure should be accosted regardless of their political persuasion or beliefs simply due to the intolerance of another point of view”, according to reports from Newsweek.

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson is known to make controversial statements on air. Even though the 52-year-old has previously claimed that he is “pro-vaccine”, on multiple occasions he has portrayed a skeptical point of view towards the COVID-19 vaccine doses.
