Reps Majorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz on Thursday taunted fellow Republican Sen Ted Cruz of Texas for describing the January 6 Capitol siege as a ‘violent terrorist attack’. The two also said that they wish former President Donald Trump hadn’t cancelled a press conference originally scheduled for the anniversary of the insurrection.

Mocking Cruz Gaetz said that the Texas Senator can bend over or  and bend a knee for the Republicans but ‘they’re just not going to love you’.

Ted Cruz was one of the Republican senators who objected to the certification of Joe Biden’s 2020 election win last year. However, referring to the first year anniversary during a Senate Rules hearing on Wednesday, he said, “We are approaching a solemn anniversary this week. And it is an anniversary of a violent terrorist attack on the Capitol where we saw the men and women of law enforcement demonstrate incredible courage, incredible bravery, risk their lives to defend the men and women who serve in this Capitol.”

Reacting to Cruz’s comments, Gaetz and Greene said they disagree with the characterization of the riot as a terror attack.

“I think Senator Cruz is smart enough to know, since he’s an attorney, that no one’s been charged with terrorism, just like no one has been charged with insurrection,” Greene said. “I think that was very irresponsible of him to call them terrorists, and I completely disagree.”

“The establishment will never love you, Ted. You know, you can bend over and bend a knee for them, but they’re just not going to love you,” Gaetz said.

Matt Gaetz further added that Cruz’s comments were not factual or sincere.
