Major League Baseball will return to London after a three-year hiatus. The League announced a matchup at the venue for the first time since 2019.
MLB, on Thursday, announced that the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs will go head-to-head in a two-game series that will be played on June 24 and 25, 2023 at the London Stadium. The teams of the National League’s central division were previously supposed to play at the same venue in 2020 but the games were canceled because of the global coronavirus pandemic.

London Stadium last hosted the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox in a similar two-game series in June 2019. The Yankees, however, swept the Red Sox, 2-0 in those matches. It was also MLB’s first-ever regular season games played in Europe.
Both the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals have previously played international games. The Cubs have played against the New York Mets in Tokyo in 2000 and in 2003 versus the Montreal Expos in a three-game series in San Juan, Mexico.
The St. Louis Cardinals have competed against the Cincinnati Reds in Mexico in 2019.

The Cubs and Cardinals have long shared an intense rivalry and bringing these matches to an international audience will only help in growing the sport.
Chicago Cubs Chairman, Tom Rickets said in a press release, “The MLB London Series between the Cubs and Cardinals has been in the works for years now and we’re thrilled to finally be able to bring one of baseball’s biggest rivalries to fans abroad in 2023.”
The 2023 London series of games is a part of a collaboration between the Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association’s March Labor Agreement. The League was shut down on December 10, 2021, after a deal was not reached between the aforementioned parties. The Lockdown was lifted on March 10, 2022. This was the ninth lockout in MLB history.
