The COVID-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna were found effective in real-world conditions even after one jab, according to a report released by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United States’ national public health agency.

Both the vaccines are 90% effective when administered to the beneficiaries in two doses, the report said. They even prevent infections that show no symptom, it added.

The vaccines are effective 80%, in case of a single dose, as per the report.

These findings largely validate the results of clinical trials, in which both Moderna and Pfizer vaccines were found to be around 95% effective.

The report titled ‘Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report’ is based on CDC’s research involving nearly 4,000 healthcare and other frontline workers of the country.

62% of the volunteers received two shots of the vaccine while 12% took a single dose of vaccine.

The study was conducted from mid-December last year to mid-March 2021.
