The Jaguars’ effort to turn around their fate met terrible luck on Monday night as Rookie running back Travis Etienne was diagnosed with Lisfranc injury.

According to media reports, Etienne will require surgery. Rapoport reported that Etienne’s original recovery timeline was a minimum of 12 weeks, but Jacksonville officially placed Etienne on injured reserve on Tuesday, which means Etienne will have to wait for 2022 to make his NFL debut.

Etienne will undergo surgery on his foot as soon as possible, Rapoport adds.

It is reportedly said that the running back suffered the injury to his left foot. Tests have revealed the extent of the damage.

Earlier, the X-ray report came back negative, leading the Jaguars to hope the injury was just a sprain. Further evaluation revealed the severity of Etienne’s ailment.

Etienne caught one pass for 3 yards and carried the ball once for 1 yard before his injury against the Saints. As he was placed on IR before making the initial 53-man roster, Etienne will not be allowed to return this season.

Etienne played a total of 16 snaps between Jacksonville’s first two preseason games. The first-round pick figured to play a role in both the running and passing game for the Jaguars.

Travis Etienne was one of the most explosive players in the country over the past four years. He led all players in college football with 55 runs of 20 or more yards from 2017 to 2020, rushing for 2,053 yards and 21 touchdowns.
