Prince Philip, the 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II, on Monday  left the private London hospital where he had spent nearly two weeks. He left the hospital on Monday to have heart tests and treatment at another hospital, reported AFP, quoting the Buckingham Palace.

In a statement, the Buckingham Palace said, “The Duke of Edinburgh was today transferred from King Edward VII’s Hospital to St Bartholomew’s Hospital where doctors will continue to treat him for an infection, as well as undertake testing and observation for a pre-existing heart condition.”

It added, “The Duke remains comfortable and is responding to treatment but is expected to remain in hospital until at least the end of the week.”

Prince Philip was hospitalised overnight in London on February 17 as a “precautionary measure” after he fell ill.

The prince and the queen, 94, have been maintaining social distancing rules at Windsor Castle because their age puts them at heightened risk from COVID-19 even after receiving their first vaccinations in January.

The Duke had retired from public duties in 2017 at the age of 96 following a two-night hospitalisation for an infection. He then had a hip operation in 2018.
