“Sheikha Latifa is being cared for at home”, Dubai’s ruling family said on Friday after United Nations, United States and other world leaders expressed concern about her safety, according to an AFP report.

Last week, a video was released by BBC where in the princess claimed that she was being held against her will. Following the release of video clips, the family released a statement that was provided by the UAE’s embassy in London. “Her family has confirmed that Her Highness is being cared for at home, supported by her family and medical professionals,” read the statement.

It added that footage broadcast by the BBC and media reporting on the princess’s plight were “not reflective of the actual position”.

Sheikha Latifa is the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai as well as the prime minister and vice president of the United Arab Emirates.

On Friday, the United Nations asked UAE to give details of the princess.

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab had also backed a UN investigation into the matter, calling the videos “very distressing”. He said that while the UK government was “concerned” there was little they could do since Latifa is not a British national.
