Saint%20David%27s%20Day%2C%20also%20known%20as%20the%20Feast%20of%20Saint%20David%2C%20is%20observed%20on%20March%201%20every%20year%20by%20the%20descendants%20of%20Welsh%20ancestors.%20The%20day%20is%20dedicated%20to%20Saint%20David%20and%20honours%20the%20date%20on%20which%20he%20died%20in%20589%20AD.%20As%20the%20name%20suggests%2C%20the%20day%20was%20established%20by%20the%20Catholic%20Church%20as%20one%20of%20its%20saints%u2019%20holy%20days%20and%20has%20been%20celebrated%20since%20the%20death%20of%20St%20David%20in%20the%2012th%20century.%20St%20David%27s%20Day%20is%20not%20a%20public%20holiday%20in%20the%20United%20Kingdom.

St%20David%20was%20born%20in%20southwest%20Wales%20into%20the%20royal%20house%20of%20Ceredigion.%20He%20was%20canonised%20as%20a%20saint%20by%20Pope%20Callixtus%20II%20in%201120.%20St%20David%20was%20recognised%20as%20the%20national%20patron%20saint%20of%20Wales%20by%20the%2012th%20Century.

On%20St%20David%27s%20Day%2C%20families%20solemnly%20remember%20the%20rich%20Welsh%20contribution%20to%20the%20heritage%20of%20the%20UK%20and%20gather%20to%20feast.%20Some%20of%20the%20Welsh%20wear%20daffodils%20and%20leeks%20in%20their%20lapels%20as%20it%20is%20said%20that%20St%20David%20only%20ate%20leeks%20when%20he%20was%20fasting.%20Leeks%20are%20also%20one%20of%20the%20national%20emblems%20of%20Wales.%26nbsp%3B

Despite%20the%20coronavirus%20pandemic%2C%20people%20have%20already%20started%20celebrating%20St%20David%27s%20Day.%20BBC%20National%20Orchestra%20of%20Wales%20will%20hold%20a%20special%20concert%20at%20Hoddinott%20Hall%20in%20Cardiff.%20A%20St%20David%27s%20Day%20run%20will%20be%20organised.%20On%20the%20website-%20Wales.com%2C%20a%20live%20stream%20will%20see%20appearances%20from%20Hollywood%20actors%20and%20music%20performances.
