Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was reportedly shot on Friday, was rushed to the hospital and was showing “no vital signs”, news agency NHK reported.
Abe, 67, became the longest-serving Prime Minister of Japan in 2020. He later resigned citing his health issues.
Shinzo Abe also remained the President of the Liberal Democratic Party twice.
He was born in the town of Tokyo in Japan and is 67 years old. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Seikei University in 1977. He also further studied at the University of Southern California for three semesters. His political journey started in 1993 when he got elected to Japan’s House of Representatives. He married in the year of 1987 and his wife’s name is Akie Matsuzaki. He has no children from the marriage. He had two brothers namely Hironobu and Nobuo Kishi.

He was born to a politically prominent family as his mother was the daughter of the former Prime Minister of Japan who served from 1957 to 1960. Shinzo’s father served as the Foreign Minister of Japan from 1982 to 1986. He was the 1st Japanese Prime Minister to be born after World War II. He is also one among the youngest post world-war Prime ministers of Japan.
There also had been controversies associated with him. On 1st of March in 2007 a controversy had sparked from a statement he made. Later he apologized on the same. In 2013, he again ignited a firestorm of criticism after visiting a controversial war shrine.
Shinzo visited India for the very first time in the year 2006-07 and addressed the Parliament. He also visited the country thrice in the years 2014, 2015, and 2017. Shinzo Abe also received the Padma Vibhushan which is the second-highest civilian award. He was the first Japanese PM to be Chief Guest at the Republic Day parade in 2014.
