Denmark football team’s captain Simon Kjaer‘s on-field heroics of providing the first aid to teammate Christian Eriksen in Saturday’s match is likely to have played a significant role in the 22-year-old being in a stable condition. Minutes before the first half of the match was about to end, Eriksen collapsed on the field.

Kjaer reportedly supported his teammate’s neck after he collapsed, followed by clearing his airway and administered the CPR process in an attempt to give primary medical attention before the on-field medics arrived at the scene.

Eriksen’s wife Sabrina, who was seen at the field shortly after the incident, was consoled by Kjaer and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel while the remaining teammates formed a barricading around the Inter Milan midfielder.

A short while after the incident, Ericksen was carried out of the field on a stretcher and taken to a hospital where he was in a stable condition, according to a tweet from UEFA.

Euro 2020’s Denmark versus Finland game was then briefly suspended following the incident. The match was resumed around 20:38 local time after a request was made by players of both teams, according to a tweet from UEFA 2020.

However, the game was taken home by Finland after beating Denmark with a score of 1-0 in their home stadium on Saturday.
