The death of the young South Korean actor Song Yoo-Jung on Saturday added another name to the list of celebrities in the country who died young.

The actor’s agency confirmed the news after the actor’s family mourned her death at a small and intimate funeral on Monday. The reason for her sudden death is unknown. However, media reports suggest that he died by suicide.

Song Yoo-Jung, 26, started her career by modeling for cosmetics when she was 20. Throughout her short career, she appeared in many Korean dramas and commercials.

However, her breakthrough came in 2019 when her web series, ‘Dear My Name’ became a hit among the people. Besides being an actor, she was also an advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. She was the ambassador for a South Korean group called Warm Accompaniment.

Her sudden death caused by alleged suicide has brought back the conversation around the alarming rate of suicide in South Korea. The suicide rate in the country is the 10th highest in the world, according to World Health Organisation(WHO).

In 2019, the country was shocked when Sulli, a very popular K-pop artist, committed suicide after facing cyberbullying. In 2017 too, Kim Jong-Hyu committed suicide, leaving a note that he was depressed.
