A 4-year-old girl identified as Avigail Idan was freed on November 26 as part of a temporary ceasefire between Hamas and Israel mediated by Qatar and the US.

Sadly, Avigail was left an orphan when Hamas murdered her parents in front of her. Her sister Amalya (6), and brother Michael (9), miraculously survived the attack.

Who is Avigail Idan?

Avigail Idan is 4 years old. On October 7, Idan was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists while she was hiding in the Brodutch family’s house in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, her neighbor. Avigail’s father, Roee Idan, a photographer for Ynet, had hurried outside to take pictures of terrorists from Hamas flying over the kibbutz on hang gliders. When he got home, he realized something was wrong and discovered that terrorists had broken in, killing his wife Smadar.

Michael, Amalya, and Avigail, the couple’s kids, went outside. Michael and Amalya went back inside as the terrorists got closer, but Avigail fled to the neighbors’ house. After being shot, Roee Idan passed away from his wounds. Under the direction of a Magen David Adom dispatcher, who gave them the order to lock the door until assistance arrived, Michael and Amalya hid for the next fourteen hours.

Along with Hagar (40), Ofri (10), Yuval (9), and Oriya Brodutch (4), Avigail took refuge in the neighbors’ sealed room while the father and husband, Avihai Brodutch, went back to face the terrorists. When he got back, he found Avigail, his kids, and his wife missing.

Amit, Idan’s brother, attempted to get in touch with the family throughout the day. Now that Michael and Amalya are with their aunt and uncle, they are waiting impatiently for news about Avigail, who is a citizen of the United States along with her mother and siblings. On November 24, Avigail turned four years old while being held captive in Gaza.
