Daria Trepova, a 26-year-old, has been arrested for killing Russian military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky in a bomb blast at a St Petersburg cafe on Sunday, Russia’s Investigative Committee said.

As per reports, Trepova has been previously detained for taking part in anti-war rallies. On Sunday, Vladlen Tatarsky, whose real name was Maxim Fomin, was killed by a bomb blast in St Petersburg. Russia’s Investigative Committee said that 25 people were wounded and were being treated.

Tatarsky was a pro-war blogger. He had more than 560,000 followers on Telegram. The 40-year-old commentated on the invasion of Ukraine.

Who is Daria Trepova?

Trepova was put on the the Russian interior ministry’s wanted list on Monday. According to reports, she was detained in St Petersburg.  Russian counter-terror officials said that the 26-year-old is an “active supporter” of the Navalny Anti-Corruption Foundation, also known as ACF or FBK.

Russian investigators on Tuesday charged Darya Trepova with terrorism over the killing of blogger Vladlen Tatarsky.

The investigative committee, as per reports, said that it had charged the 26-year-old with committing “a terrorist act by an organised group that caused intentional death”.

It said Trepova had handed Tatarsky a statuette that later blew up, adding that she had acted under instructions from people working on behalf of Ukraine.

A video circulating on Russian media showed Tatarsky taking a statuette out of a box before it apparently exploded.

“Don’t negotiate with terrorists. They should be exterminated like rabid dogs with poisonous saliva flowing from their mouths … Forgiveness and compassion are not applicable to them. This is what the highest justice is,” former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, who is deputy chair of Putin’s powerful security council, wrote on his Telegram channel.

Alexei Navalny’s allies have however denied their involvement in the blast. “It’s even strange that we have to write and say this, but no, the FBK is not involved in the murder of propagandist Vladlen Tatarsky,” Lyubov Sobol, a key Navalny ally, tweeted.
